The Mission of
the APALACHEE Maritime Museum is to preserve, exhibit and
interpret this National Historic Landmark and associated
artifacts for the purpose of public enrichment, education,
historic preservation and historic research. The Museum also
has the goal of supporting the tourism, economic development
and educational initiatives of the City of Cleveland, Ohio.
The Apalachee
museum will be part of the Wendy Park complex, a lovely 20
acre park and preserve located on Cleveland's Whiskey
Island. Public docks will be made available to those
visiting by sea. The Whiskey Island Marina is located
nearby along with the Sunset Grill, a fine restaurant
and pub.
The Apalachee
will be part of the exhibits at the restored Coast Guard
station on Whiskey Island. The station is a national
historic landmark. It will be a maritime and Coast Guard
museum and interpretive center. Design plans for the area
are still under development.
