FELLOW
TUGGERS! The initial plans for
our 5th
Reunion
of the Coast Guard Tug Association have been set! The vote of the
membership present at our 2008 reunion was heavily in favor of holding
our next gathering in the newest Coast Guard City –

,
ME.
Your wishes are our command and we hope to bring you another memorable
experience.

mind, any active duty or retired members are welcome to “break out the
old sea bag” and attend in their appropriate uniforms.
As we
are now a 501 (c) 3 incorporated Association, we need your help to
establish a solid treasury. We need your donations to help us finance
our Association’s business, support our reunions, assist in “up
front” financing for future events and memorabilia, and support the
care and restoration of the Apalachee.
Any donations to the “cause” would be greatly appreciated and are
fully tax deductible!
Hope to
see a great turn out in
Rockland
!

Fellow
Tuggers:
That
time of year is approaching when we have to start planning the next Tug
Association
Reunion
& meeting. As planned, the meeting will be in
Rockland
,
Maine
(
Coast
Guard
City
) in October, 2010. In the
near future,
Sandy Schwaab
will be publishing all the information regarding this meeting.
One
of the fund raisers for the CGTA is the auction. We are giving the
auction advance billing for it is to be bigger and better than ever
before. The CGTA needs to build its capital reserves and the auction can
be a significant part of the fund raising effort.
Since I have been drafted to be the 2010 auctioneer, I
am asking for your help in collecting quality items for the auction.
Keep in mind that CGTA is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization; therefore,
any items donated will have value that is tax deductable.
All
of us older Coasties have memorabilia that is stored in a closet or in
the attic. In the case of my own family, I have an attachment to these
items and they bring back memories of my more reckless and youthful
years but, these items have no attachment to anyone else in the family.
In my opinion I would prefer to have these items go to someone who
understands their meaning and appreciates their value. Therefore, I am
going to scavenge my storage areas to come up with some items for the
Tug auction. Also, families
of deceased CG personnel may have memorabilia they are willing to pass
on.
I’m
asking each Tug member to do the same, and let’s make this a team
effort over the next few months for this to be the “grand slam” of
auctions. Although CGTA is a Coast Guard organization, we do not have to
restrict ourselves only to CG memorabilia. In addition, I’m sure all
of us have friends from other branches of service that may not be
members of the CGTA, but may be willing to help their friends by
donating to the auction. Each
donor will receive a letter from CGTA identifying the item, its value,
and the 501(c)3 number.
From
the last meeting, we know that the Pea Coats are hot items. The
following are some other items that are food for thought, but please,
don’t restrict your search to just these suggestions:
-
Bell
bottom dungarees
-
Coffee cups with logos or
the CG stripes
-
Books
-
Antique pictures
-
Antique buttons
-
Military memorabilia
-
Hats (the original CG
hats)
All
items will be safely stored at the
Maine
Lighthouse
Museum
. As items are received they will be inventoried and a list will be sent
to the CGTA Board on a monthly basis. All items will be auctioned at the
discretion of the Association with the Executive Board’s oversight.
All
items of exceptional value must be identified by the donor as such and
will be listed in the inventory in one of the two categories listed
below. The donor must specify the category and the value, if known. An
item of unknown value will be assessed and value determined by the CGTA
Executive Committee. All items of exceptional dollar value and items of
exceptional historical value will be handled in the following manner:
Exceptional dollar value: If not sold, then these items will be held and used for subsequent
Reunion
auctions unless the donor has made a specific request for the item to be
returned.
Exceptional
historical value: If not sold, the value will be assessed and the
items will be donated to the appropriate museum as determined by the
CGTA Executive Committee.
The
disposition of all other items remaining at the end of the
auction, those not sold, will be determined by the Executive Committee.
All items are to be mailed to the following:
